White House Conference on BRAIN Initiative

On September 30, 2014, the White House announced new investments in the Obama Administration’s BRAIN initiative – a bold, new initiative focused on revolutionizing our understanding of the human brain.

John Holdren, Director of the  Office of Science & Technology, gave the keynote introduction of the BRAIN Initiative. Meredith Drosback, who works in the OSTP science division, coordinated the conference panelists. Paul Alivisatos, Director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory moderated two panels (starting at minute 16).

The first panel had Cory Bargmann of Rockefeller University and HHMI and Mark Schnizer of Stanford and HHMI. The second panel (starting around minute 50) included Jeff Manley who is Chief of Neurosurgery at San Francisco General Hospital and UCSF professor and Kerry Ressler, Professor at Emory University and co-director of the Grady Trauman Project.

At one hour and 18 minutes, Tom Kahlil, Director of Innovation at OSTP, spoke about the private sector commitments.
